Drawing Day: A storm coming
Today is Drawing Day, didn’t do much though, here’s another rough one. I think I might get used to the tablet a little bit though, it was quite fun.
EDIT: Wow, I was sure I saw this runestone while looking up Öland on Wikipedia but I cannot find it anymore. If someone has a clue, please leave a comment. I remember it being a stone with some kind of poem about a warrior (from Denmark?). The interesting thing about it was that there were romanic/blackletter characters on the back even though no one could figure what they meant.
EDIT2: I was mostly right. It must be the Karlevi Runestone south of Färjestaden (though in my drawing the stone looks really different).

Tried the Wacom Tablet again, still didn’t really like it. Vectors are much faster to work with, doesn’t take so much time until something doesn’t look totally shitty anymore (my problem still being that I get bored before I get to the point were I begin to like it with the tablet).
Yes, that is a viking-airship. Awesome, huh?

I have no idea why I gave this that name but I can’t think of anything better right now. I also have no idea where this came from, the image of trees with lots of blossoms/leaves glowing in the dark beneath one of these infinite skies at night just popped into my head. Might be an aftermath of the awesome nature in Öland.
One of the rare things that turned out almost exactly as they were in my mind.

Okay, someone calling himself »amotionpicture« (wtf?) posted this entry on ifreelance.com:
Though that is one of these things you can’t really call »illustration« because you have almost no room for any interpretation I had a vivid image in my mind and though it would be fun to just do it.
I am not going to participate since ifreelance.com is one of those sites that not only fuck up the design-business by making it possible for people to get stuff designed for unbelievable low prices – we have these kind of sites in Germany too, like 12designer or designenlassen – but at least the German sites don’t requiere the designers to pay just for an account* (huh, just saw the guy posted an e-mail-address, maybe I’ll send it to him anyway).
Well, as it has been said on fontblog, people making entries in sites like these deserve to get shit for the no-money they want to spend. Of course there are situations – as maybe the one above – were you just don’t have any money you can give. But especially if you are in the creative industry there should be solutions for that. I think it is quite normal to design t-shirts or booklets for small bands and they give you some merchandise, free entry to a show, a dvd or whatever.
Anyway, I had fun doing this and I am sure that that is completley not what this guy wants since I largely dared to ignore his suggestions (moon, media, insects etc.…):
*Coming to think of it: I have no idea if there is a fee on the German sites, I never bothered trying to sign up.

Hihi, schaut mal, was ich grade wiedergefunden habe (allein der rosa Ladebalken mit völligem Zahlenwirrwarr … ^___^): eine Studienarbeit aus den ersten Semestern zum Thema Hieronymus Bosch, die ich immer zu verdrängen versuche, weil die Bildrechte natürlich gestohlen sind.

So, hier jetzt mal endlich wieder was eigenes, ein kleines Geburtstagsbildchen für Basti.
Traumtagebuch 1
Ich soll Jesus wieder auferwecken. Dazu bekomme ich auf einem Friedhof (nachts, natürlich) von einer Gestalt die Essenz von Jesus überreicht, die ich für den Vorgang brauche. In Form eines 0,33-Beck’s.
Auf dem Weg zum geeigneten Ort für die Zeremonie trinke ich fast alles von dem Bier/der Essenz von Jesus, bis mir auffällt, was ich da tue und in einem Anfall von Panik das Bier, das ich gerade im Mund habe, zurück in die Flasche spucke. Dies hat zur Folge, daß Jesus, als ich ihn wieder auferstehen lasse, auch einen Teil von meiner Persönlichkeit hat.
Aus irgendwelchen Gründen muss ich nach der Prozedur, die so spannend nicht gewesen sein kann, zumindest bleiben mir davon keine Erinnerungen, noch einmal zurück zum Friedhof, der jetzt in einem der schwarzen Viertel von New Orleans liegt. Während des Weges fallen mir seltsame Flugobjekte auf: elektronische Augäpfel, schwarz-metallisch, mit comic-haften, schwarzen Engelsflügeln. Ein Mann sagt mir, daß das Spione der Regierung sind, böse, böse, seien die. Wieviele es davon gebe, will ich wissen? »666«.
Shorty: The Princess and the Pearl
The Princess and the Pearl sind eine lokale Band hier aus BS, ich glaube, die studieren beide in der Klangklasse in der HBK. Drauf gekommen bin ich über Stefan, der denen ihr Album-Artwork gemacht hat. Ich bin total hin und weg von dieser sphärischen, märchenhaften Musik.
Dieses Nebel-Bild von mir ist eine direkte Reaktion auf das Album, auch wenn es, meiner Meinung nach, nicht mehr viel mit dem schwebenden Klang der Musik zu tun hat.

Collage – Gustav Meyrink’s »The Golem«
Yiha, I just ran a backup prog and read about this work that I’ve done as a present for a friend’s birthday in 2006 in the program’s logfile. I always adored Meyrink’s book almost as much for his gorgeous description of Prague as for the mystical parts.
I rarely do collages but this one’s one of the few I was satisfied with in the end (the pic above is just a detail, click it for the whole work).
Illustration Friday – Wave’s Not Dead
Okay, this is my first submission for Illustration Friday and it’s not finished but I want to submit it anyway because I always wanted to take part in Illustration Friday and today it’s now or never.
This is also my first digital image ever that I have done with a Graphic Tablet. I’m totally not used to it but it’s fun on the other hand.
Since I’m not that old I don’t really remember the 80’s prober but one of the few things I like about them would be the Punk/Wave/Gothic movement. Though I don’t listen to that music I kinda like the visual style (which totally sucked aside from that in the 80’s).

Irgendwie bin ich natürlich wieder voll nicht dazu gekomen mich weiter mit diesem Seminar zu beschäftigen und aus irgendwelchen Gründen ist der Herr dann nach Neujahr plötzlich sehr viel jünger geworden als er vorher war aber das bieg ich schon noch alles wieder hin.
Ich hab irgendwie so das Gefühl noch nicht so wirklich zum Kern dieser Geschichte vorgedrungen zu sein: Dieser »Stier«-Typ versteckt sich halt über Jahre mit dem Raucher zusammen auf so einem Fischfangschiff (wo sie auch arbeiten), weil sie beide was zu verbergen haben und hängen die ganze Zeit miteinander rum und nichts passiert auf engstem Raum. Und irgendwann bringt der Stier den Raucher um. Und ich muss sowohl noch diese Schiffsatmosphere besser hinkriegen als auch diese Situation, daß der Stier halt so ein ruhiger, behebiger Kerl ist in dessen tiefsten Innern es aber wahrscheinlich (auch wenn es ihm selbst nicht bewusst ist) die ganze Zeit voll am brodeln ist. Und das entläd sich dann irgendwann alt.
Das Ganze beruht übrigens auf einer Krimi-Mini-Kurzgeschichte von Roger M. Fiedler, die in irgendeiner deutschen Tagesteitung erschienen ist. Ähm. Übrigens anscheinend einer der ganz wenigen guten, die es da so gab.

So, dann doch mal wieder ein kleiner Eintrag. Eine Skizze zu einem Fachseminar, daß ich dieses Semester bei Frau Helmbold belege, das einen unendlich langen Titel hat, den niemand sich merken kann aber bei dem es letztendlich um Kriminalkurzgeschichten geht. Ich bin weder mit dem Style noch mit der Kolorierung vollauf zufrieden aber vielleicht wird das ja noch.
Und dicke Menschen zu zeichnen macht ja mal sowas von Spaß…
EDIT: Ja ja, wenn man nicht immer VOLL konzentriert ist beim zeichnen, ne? Warum blutet der Fischlaib aber der Kopf nicht? Das wird gleich mal geändert (in der Offline-Version…).

Hier mein aktuellestes, selbstgebautes CD-Digipack, enstanden anläßlich des Geburtstages eines Kommilitonen.
Der Text auf der Innenseite stammt von »The Ghosts You Draw on My Back« der wundervollen isländischen Band Múm, die das Fundament der CD bilden. Witzig, Múm habe ich über o.g.»Hu Die / Butterfly« kennengelernt, weil sie auf dem (leider nicht existierenden) Soundtrack sind.

»Hu Die«-Poster
Hier ein Paar Poster zu Yan Yan Maks wundervollem Film »Butterfly – Hu Die«. Die Poster gibt es hauptsächlich weil outnow.ch mal wieder so schöne, große Filmstills, bzw. anderes Material am Start hatte, das dazu einlud. Ich bin jetzt nicht mehr so hundertpronzentig zufrieden mit dem Glow, da wär wohl ganz oder garnicht mehr angebracht gewesen als diese krude Mischung aber nett sind sie immer noch.
