FoF: Woche 23

Puh, das waren dann ja wieder eher zwei Bilder, deswegen frühestens nächste Woche die finale Version. Bin mir nicht sicher, ob das umgekehrt mehr Sinn macht, denke aber nicht. Vielleicht muss ich die Sprechblasen noch mehr aufteilen, dass sie mehr über das zweite Bild gehen oder so.

Nächste Woche:
Joik hat mir ein paar sehr gute Rückmeldungen gegeben (danke!) und es sieht fast so aus, als würde ich noch ein Bild vorher einbauen, d.h. 1. Ara trifft Fuchs, 2. Nin taucht auf, 3. Nin rettet Fuchs. Mal schauen. Dann haut’s auf jeden Fall auch wieder hin, dass dieses Bild auf eine Doppelseite kommt. Glaube ich.

Weil es jetzt auch um die Bildabfolge geht hab ich das Ganze mal als durchblätterbares PDF an Start gebracht (für Doppelseiten in Adobe Reader Anzeige > Seitenanzeige > Bildlauf in Zweiseitenansicht. Oder, wer das generell praktisch findet: Voreinstellungen > Seitenanzeige > Seitenlayout > Zwei Seiten, fortlaufend). Und die anderen Bilder nach dem Klick spar’ ich mir einfach mal.

Puh ist das erste Bild anders als alle anderen, ich hab da nochmal ein bissl dran rumgebaut aber da muss ich am Ende auch nochmal ran. Wie ca. an alle.

Braucht die letzte Seite Dialog (Dialog scheint eine meiner vielen Schwächen zu sein! ^___^)? Ich denke, dass kann besser abgeschätzt werden, wenn es die nächste Seite gibt.

Serial ist ein Real Crime-Podcast, von dem ich sehr begeistert bin. Angry Asian Man hat eine Reihe von Artikeln verlinkt, die aufzeigen warum es problematisch ist, dass hier (mal wieder) eine weiße Frau als Protagonistin fungiert.

Remember that shitty fantasy game that was all about The Realizmz™ but had no PoC or playable women in its „world’s most advanced character creation tool“? One of the guys behind it now goes all white tears whiny douchebro and feels his „artistic freedom“ (hear! hear!) being threatened by people criticizing his racist, misogynist ass. That’s what happens when you’re a backwards fuck in 2014, you get called out, deal with it. You didn’t even have to change your wanky game. On a lighter note, a few cool blogs I found (via MedievalPOC), POC-Creators, Black Nerd Problems and Geeks Out. Also: We Heart: „We want games to be a space where everyone feels welcome. We think critical thinking in games should be applauded. We want to play all kinds of games, made by all kinds of people. We think games are for everyone.“

If the movie’s main characters visit Nazi-Germany only to nerd out about warplanes, you know you’re watching some fucked-up bullshit. Shame on you, Studio Ghibli (I also feel like it’s a new low when it comes to female characters). The best thing about The Wind Rises is that it’s a reminder that capitalism as a system hasn’t been working since the 1920s. I’ll take the world without pyramids, btw (yes, I know that probably means living in the stone age).

Oh look, another cartoon series about white boys! Because, you know, poor white boys, sooo underrepresented in mainstream media, gotta give’m some rolemodelz. Otherwise this looks like it might be fun. UPDATE: Nope, it’s boring and annoying.

Megadystopische Folge von This American Life, in der es darum geht, dass in den USA PoC-Kinder häufiger von Kindergarten/Schule suspendiert werden (aus rassistischen Gründen, für geringere Vergehen als weiße Kinder), was dazu führt, dass sie nicht mehr mitkommen, frustriert sind, mehr suspendiert werden, weniger lernen, später eher im Knast landen. School to Prison Pipeline nennt sich das. Als Extra gibt’s dann noch einen weiteren Cop, von dem man sich fragt, wie sower noch einen Job hat (hint hint privilege hint).

Genau was wir brauchen: mehr Filme, die sich angeblich mit Rassismus beschäftigen aber zu feige sind IRL Minderheiten zu portraitieren, sondern auf Roboter ausweichen.

Dass die Gründer von Pirate Bay jahrelang in den Knast kommmen und 400(!) Polizisten Wohnungen wg. Kinox, Boerse und Gully oder whatever durchsuchen finde ich irgendwie bizarr, gruselig und unverhältnismässig (wieviele Polizisten beschäftigen sich eigentlich mit den Morddrohungen gegen Frauen, die es gewagt haben im Internet was zu sagen)? But hey, that’s capitalism for you. Wenn das heilige Kapital in Gefahr ist muss der Staat natürlich ohne Gnade auf seine Bürger_innen eindreschen, is ja klar.

Review: Ghibli’s Ronja Ep. 1

Another childhood memory destroyed by CGI,* thank you Ghibli. Maybe Miyazaki is right and you just need to die.

The CGI kinda works when characters are shown from far away, moving, in large crowds or from the back (yes, please do that if it saves you money), but as soon as you can see faces more closely the horrible plastic facial expressions and movements become apparent and it all falls apart.

I think part of my dislike might actually be my wrong expectations, I imagined everything much more grimdark, the people older and dirtier (more bearded!) and not the lollipop-coloured thing DisneyGhibli made of it.

Also: Hello Smurfette, fancy seeing you here.

Btw, the Wildtruden/Harpies were by far the best thing about Ronja, a glimpse of what it could have been (would have scared me to death as a child though):

Die neue Apple OSX-Version Yosemite hat anscheinend einen Ubuntu-Style Werbungs-Privatsphäre-Fuckup in Spotlight. Da werde ich dann im Falles eines Updates die Firewall nochmal von 0 anfangen lassen und noch mehr als jetzt auch systemeigenen Kram blocken. Oh, und mehr unsympatischer Bullshit, diesmal à la Windoge.

In Hong Kong wurde ja grade Firechat zur Revolution benutzt. Genau wie bei allen anderen digitalen Revolutionen (arabischer Frühling, Twitter, FB), ist natürlich auch Firechat dafür mehr als schlecht gerüstet und einigermaßen leicht abhörbar (wenn man den Vorteil, dass die abhörende Person da real vor Ort sein muss mal außen vor läßt?). It’s been an ongoing problem for me that most of the so called „Graphic Novels“ I read are annoying me quite a bit because most of are just unbelievable boring, nothing seems to happen. One of the early offenders was the highly praised „Blankets“ by Craig Thompson, the story of a random guy having love problems at college because of religion or something bored me to death. But that’s no match for my personal most hated work in this regard: „George Sprott 1894-1975“ by Seth. Nothing happens. At all.

Interestingly I really liked „Skim“ by Mariko Tamaki (text) & Jillian Tamaki (illustration) even though it could be as boring as Blankets: Skim is the diary of a high school girl and while nothing much extra-ordinary is taking place it deals with the heavy topics of love and death. I can’t put why I liked this one better then all the rest but what is obvious is the quality of the illustrations, I adore the fluid and confident yet sketchy style (also maybe yay because it’s not a hetero lovestory?).
